Smartwaiver alternatives: 8 waiver tools, their prices and who each one suits

Smartwaiver is the best-known online waiver tool, and for many businesses it works well. People who look elsewhere usually mention the price at small volumes, the bill after a busy month, or how it handles families and repeat customers.

We make one of the tools on this list, Digital Waivers. So we have stuck to what each company publishes, and we say where the others do better than us. We checked every price in October 2026.

The short answer

The main Smartwaiver alternatives are WaiverSign, WaiverForever, WaiverElectronic, WaiverFile, WaiverDrop, WaiverTrail, HappyWaiver and Digital Waivers. WaiverDrop and HappyWaiver cost the least. WaiverForever connects to the most tools, through Zapier, and has an offline kiosk app. WaiverFile adds online booking. Digital Waivers is built around families, group lists and front-desk check-in.

Prices and limits side by side

Entry plans, billed monthly, in US dollars. "Signed waivers" is what each plan allows in a month.

What you would pay at your volume

Entry prices hide the real bill. This is the cheapest published way to collect each number of waivers in a month, plan plus any overage. A dash means the tool does not publish enough to work it out.

Signed waivers a month 100 150 250 500
Smartwaiver $22 $60 $60 $160
Digital Waivers $19 $19 $39 $79
WaiverSign $19 $26.50 $41.50 $79
WaiverElectronic $34.99 $34.99 $34.99 $34.99
WaiverFile $19 $19 $49 $99
WaiverDrop $15 $15 $15 $15
WaiverTrail $9 $49 $49 $49
HappyWaiver $5 $5 $5 $5
WaiverForever — — — —

Monthly prices in US dollars before tax. WaiverElectronic's 70-waiver plan is $11.99 in the first year, so it does not cover 100. WaiverForever charges per submission on top of the plan, in tiers it does not list in full. How families count changes everything: here, a parent signing for three children is one waiver. On some tools it is four.

Smartwaiver at a glance

Smartwaiver has been around for over 15 years and says more than 250 million waivers have been signed with it. Plans are priced by waivers a month: Basic $22 for 100, Starter $60 for 300, Business $160 for 1,000 and Premium $205 for 2,500. It connects to more than 33 tools, including Mindbody and FareHarbor, has a native kiosk app, and will set up your first waiver for you.

Why people look for an alternative

Most complaints in public reviews are about repeat customers, families and search:

  • "lots of duplicates to manage, it doesn't handle repeat customers very well" (Reddit, r/smallbusiness)
  • "It would be great to link the Minor Waiver to the Adult Waiver as customers get frustrated" (Capterra review)
  • "they have changed the customer search and it is no longer easy" (Capterra review)

When to stay with Smartwaiver

Stay if your booking system already passes data to Smartwaiver, if your kiosk has to work offline, or if you collect more than 500 waivers a month. In those cases switching costs more than it saves.

The alternatives

Digital Waivers (ours)

Plans are $19 for 150, $39 for 250 and $79 for 500 signed waivers a month. A parent signing for three children counts as one. We email you at 80% of your limit. At the limit, new signing pauses until you move up or the month resets, and there is never an overage fee.

Good for
Gyms, studios, rentals and activity businesses with families and groups: one signature for every child, group links that show who is missing, and check-in with a tap. Paste your own waiver and it's live in about five minutes.
Watch for
No offline kiosk, no Zapier or booking-system connections, and no free plan. The kiosk and group links start on Pro.

WaiverSign

An established tool with a strong content library and lawyer-written FAQs. Growth is $19 for 100 waivers a month, Professional $49 for 250, Business $149 for 1,000, plus $0.15 for each waiver over the limit.

Good for
Tour operators, and anyone who wants the first waiver built for them.
Watch for
The per-waiver charge in a busy month, and a 7-day trial.

WaiverForever

The broadest feature list: free kiosk apps with offline signing, payments, a CRM and thousands of tools through Zapier. Plans start at $19, plus a usage charge once you pass 50 submissions, from $0.10 down to $0.05 each. There is a free plan for 20 a month.

Good for
Businesses that need many integrations or a kiosk that works without Wi-Fi.
Watch for
Several meters at once: devices, templates, team users and submissions. The entry plan has one device and three templates.

WaiverElectronic

Low prices, with unlimited devices and templates on every plan. Basic is $11.99 a month for 70 waivers in the first year and $14.99 from year two. Starter is $34.99 for 600.

Good for
Higher volumes on a tight budget.
Watch for
The year-two price rise, and no published overage rate.

WaiverFile

Booking and waivers in one flow, popular with parties and kids' activities. Waiver plans start at $19 for 150 a month, $49 for 400. Over the limit costs $0.50 a waiver, and they email you as you get close.

Good for
Party venues and event businesses that also need online booking.
Watch for
The $0.50 overage, the highest published price in this list.

WaiverDrop

A newer tool with a flat price: Pro is $15 a month with no cap on waivers. The free plan covers 10 a month, where a parent signing for three children uses three.

Good for
A single studio that wants a flat price and nothing to count.
Watch for
No group lists, and the free plan counts each child separately.

WaiverTrail

Built for tour, rental and event operators, with connections to FareHarbor, Rezdy and Xola. Free for 10 a month, Starter $9 for 100, Pro $49 for 1,000 with group links and check-in.

Good for
Operators already on one of those booking platforms.
Watch for
Group links and check-in only on the $49 plan.

HappyWaiver

The cheapest per signature: $5 a month includes 500 waivers, and the first 100 are free. It publishes a per-waiver price table against other tools.

Good for
Anyone whose main criterion is the lowest price.
Watch for
The overage price is not stated.

Switching from Smartwaiver, step by step

This works for any of the tools above. The steps in brackets are how it goes in Digital Waivers.

  1. 1 Download what you haveBefore you cancel, download your signed PDFs and signer data from Smartwaiver. Keep them: a waiver signed there stays a valid record after you leave.
  2. 2 Move the wording, not the signaturesCopy your waiver text and paste it into the new tool. (In Digital Waivers the builder splits it into clauses, and you mark the ones that need initials.)
  3. 3 Rebuild the parts for minorsCheck how the new tool handles parents and children before you go live. (Here, add the minors block and the form asks Just me, Me + kids or Only kids.)
  4. 4 Swap every linkReplace the old link in your booking confirmation, your website button and your bio. Reprint the QR codes and reopen the kiosk tablets on the new kiosk link.
  5. 5 Run both for two weeksLeave the old waiver open while bookings made before the switch come in. Then archive it.

How to choose

  1. 1 Count your busiest month, not an average one. Then check what each tool does when you pass its limit: charge per waiver, pause signing, or not say.
  2. 2 Check how families count. Some tools count each child as a waiver. Others count one signature, however many children it covers.
  3. 3 If your desk has no reliable Wi-Fi, choose a tool with a native kiosk app that works offline.
  4. 4 If your booking system must pass data to your waivers, check that tool's integration list before anything else.
  5. 5 Ask how you get your data out if you leave, and whether it costs anything.

Questions

What is the best Smartwaiver alternative?

That depends on how many waivers you collect and what you need besides the waiver. For a flat price with no cap, WaiverDrop. For many integrations and an offline kiosk app, WaiverForever. For bookings and waivers together, WaiverFile. For families, group lists and check-in at a small business, Digital Waivers, which we make.

Is there a free alternative to Smartwaiver?

WaiverForever (20 waivers a month), WaiverDrop (10), WaiverTrail (10) and HappyWaiver (the first 100) have free plans. Digital Waivers has a 14-day free trial and no free plan.

How much does Smartwaiver cost?

As published in October 2026: Basic $22 a month for 100 waivers, Starter $60 for 300, Business $160 for 1,000 and Premium $205 for 2,500. Its pricing page does not state an overage price.

Can I move my waiver from Smartwaiver to Digital Waivers?

Yes. Copy your waiver text and paste it into the builder, which splits it into clauses for you to check. Publish it and swap the link and QR code on your booking emails and signage. Signed waivers do not move across, so download them from Smartwaiver and keep them.

Will I lose my old signed waivers if I leave Smartwaiver?

Download them before you cancel. A signed waiver stays valid as a PDF, wherever you keep it. Check Smartwaiver's terms for how long it keeps data after you leave.

Is Digital Waivers cheaper than Smartwaiver?

At every volume both of us cover, yes: $19 for 150 waivers a month against Smartwaiver's $22 for 100, and the table above shows the rest. Above 500 a month, Smartwaiver's larger plans are the better fit.

Why do businesses switch from Smartwaiver?

In public reviews, the common reasons are the price at small volumes, duplicate records for repeat customers, how minor and adult waivers fit together, and changes to search. Others switch for features it does not focus on, like group lists that show who is missing.
